If you have an allergy your immune system mistakes an otherwise harmless substance as an invader, this substance is called an allergen. The immune system then overreacts to the allergen by producing Immunoglobulin E antibodies, in which these antibodies then travel to cells to release histamine and other chemicals, thus causing an allergic reaction.
The most common environmental allergens are:
- Grasses
- Trees
- Weeds
- Mold
- Dust
- Animal dander
Symptoms of these allergic reactions consist of:
- Itchy
- Watery eyes
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
Allergic reactions can also trigger asthma. In our office, we are able to diagnose all kinds of seasonal and perennial allergies. We do this by performing skin testing, which Dr. Mathuria will then review and create a treatment plan. The treatment plan could include immunotherapy (allergy shots).
